It's summer, it's hot!
It's summer: it's hot. By following a few simple rules and thanks to the house's thermal mass, you'll have a very comfortable stay, without catching a cold from air conditioning. The principle: KEEP THE HEAT OUT.
- This old house has thick walls made of solid, local bricks (the pink brick of Toulouse), which protect against the intense heat.
- It is surrounded by vegetation, which naturally lowers the temperature.
- The north-facing balcony/terrace is sheltered by a roof; it allows the wind to pass through while providing shade.
- The cottages are north/south oriented: in summer, create a cross breeze by letting the air circulate at night (you have nothing to fear from thieves).
- From the morning onwards, close the windows and the bay window to prevent the heat from entering.
- Avoid using the oven! Use the barbecue and, if it's very hot, consider salads.
- In the main room, you have a ceiling fan (to be used only when you are present).
- In the master bedroom, you have a tower fan (to be used only when you are present).
